I spent Labor Day with my boyfriend at Chewacla State Park in Auburn, Alabama. When we were in college at Tuskegee University, Chewacla was a favorite go-to spot. The state park is pet friendly, has plenty of pavilions and of course, Lake Chewacla. It attracts so many people because of the waterfall that feeds the handful of watering holes. The weather was perfect!
To get to the watering holes, you have to hike down about half a mile. When you get there, there's plenty of places to string up a hammock or lay out on a towel.
If hiking really isn't your thing, you can go directly to the lake to swim, paddle boat, kayak or whatever your heart desires. If you've even been to summer camp, it'll give you major nostalgia.
