The little black dress (LBD) is a staple in every woman's wardrobe. Before I left for college, my mom and aunts made sure that my closet had a nice tailored suit, a pair of black pumps and a black dress that I could wear to any event. My style has transformed a lot since undergrad but one thing will remain the same- my love for the LBD. 'Tis the season for corporate gatherings, dinner parties and theater dates. When in doubt, a nice black dress will never let you down. Here's my guide to slaying your little black dress and having the most fun at your Christmas party!
Black doesn't have to be boring. This is a fun twist on the classic LBD. This bardot-style dress is perfect for hosting family or friends. Dinner parties can be overwhelming and the last thing you want to worry about is what to wear. Pair it with basic black pumps and your sure to be the hostess with the mostest.
TIP: if you're unsure about what to serve, send your guests a theme and ask that everyone bring a dish or drink!
Ok, so technically, this isn't a dress- but it's still black lol. The #ModernMaven is all about stepping outside of the box. Jumpsuits are great for office parties. My favorite black jumpsuit is one-shouldered and wide legged. It's trendy without being cheesy. It still gives a very classic look.
TIP: Be prepared to network! Company events are a great way to talk to your coworkers in an informal environment. Have you been eyeing that new opening on the marketing team? Here's your chance to introduce yourself to the team lead and look good doing it!
Christmas parties are fun-- but New Years Eve parties are everythingggg!!! Every year I'm torn between being cute and getting hypothermia or being layered up and cozy. Last year I thought I found the hack and decided to celebrate in Los Angeles. It was 40 degrees at night. (Rolls eyes) This year, I won't get caught slipping. I introduce to you- the long sleeved dress. For the win! If having your sleeves covered still isn't enough to protect you from the winter cold, slide on a pair of over the knee boots. You'll be sexy and warm!
Last, but certainly not least-- the classic LBD. There isn't anything particularly fancy about this dress, but your closet wouldn't be the same without it. This is your go-to: a plain, black dress that you can dress up or dress down. Personally, I would wear this every time I went out if I could. It's so comfortable and I can layer on a coat or wear it as is. It's literally perfect for any occasion.
