In memory of the late, great Michael K. Williams, I’m (finally) posting the press interview I participated in for Lovecraft Country in 2020. I’m not sure why I never published this audio. At first I didn’t think my questions were good enough, then I grappled with what type of format I should put it in; juggling with the idea of “HML: The Podcast”. I could never think of the perfect way to post this… so I never did. I looked up, and months had passed since Lovecraft Country premiered. Before I knew it, the entire season had gone by. I was so upset with myself for never posting this- one of the biggest stories in my independent journalism career. I’m still mad at myself.
Last year, I sat for a virtual press junket along with NBC News, BlackNerdProblems and Fansided.com. Michael K. Williams was one of my favorite interviews out of the bunch. On September 7, 2021, he was found unresponsive in his NYC apartment. Officials pronounced him dead on the scene.
It was heartbreaking.
It’s heartbreaking to listen back to his words. It’s also uniquely inspiring. I feel like Michael K. Williams was one of the greatest storytellers of our time. As mad as I am at myself for sitting on this, I’m still so honored to have shared some time with the late actor.
