The Woodley Park little library was generously sponsored by Underwood Sanders Investment Group
and proudly built by Phillip Jarman.
It takes between $250 and $300 to build a custom little library box and stock it with books!
The Woodley Park neighborhood in Montgomery is mostly Black, located on the South side of the city. 21.0% of Woodley Park’s households are run by single mothers, which is a higher concentration than NeighborhoodScout found in 97.8% of American neighborhoods. Further NeighborhoodScout research showed strong statistical correlations among high rates of children living in single parent households, and neighborhood crime, particularly violent crime, neighborhood poverty, and, importantly, the percentage of low weight births and rates of infant mortality. Most of this neighborhood in Montgomery is low income, making it among the lowest income neighborhoods in America. NeighborhoodScout’s research shows that this neighborhood has an income lower than 86.2% of U.S. neighborhoods. With 38.9% of the children here below the federal poverty line, this neighborhood has a higher rate of childhood poverty than 86.5% of U.S. neighborhoods.
